Masterclass: Audio Drama with Jack Bowman Part 3

If you enjoyed Jack’s previous masterclass’s and are craving more…

Here is the finale, part 3 of our audio drama masterclass!!

Jack has already provided a full proof guide to creating and scripting an audio drama from scratch but still has a few more tricks up his sleeve to share with you.

In this last workshop, Jack shares how to technically structure an audio drama script and what the different writing templates look like. He also goes into the importance of adding not just dialogue to a script but also adding spot effects, describing the atmosphere, providing a guide for your actors and a lot of other things such as scene transitions.

Jack also goes through the pros and cons of different scripting software, as well as the do’s and don’ts of scripting, which I definitely recommend you watch!

Jack really shares the importance of having fun with this process and not being afraid to try different things, because as we know practice makes perfect!!

So without further ado, here is Part 3 of our Audio Drama Masterclass…

Member Makeover: Podcast Elevator Pitch and USP

An elevator pitch is designed to quickly tell someone what your podcast is about such that if they want more information, they’ll visit your website or another source where they can learn more about your podcast. Our goal is to help you create an effective podcast pitch that you can use as your show description on podcast directories like Apple Podcasts (formerly iTunes). It’s been described variously as ‘the headline of a marketing message’ or ‘your 30-second advert’. So how do you craft this (typically) one-sentence summary of your podcast that quickly and effectively grabs someone’s attention?

Our first member makeover comes from Founding Studio Members Shay and Atlanta, who host the All in Due Time podcast. Their podcast is all about wellness, mental health ad self-development for women in their early twenties. We sat down with them for an hour, discussed their goals and production plans, and gave them advice on what they could do to improve the podcast ahead of their third season launch.

One of the assignments we set was for them to think about their elevator pitch, and what makes their podcast unique and different from other self-care and wellness podcasts. They came back to us with a planning document containing their target listener breakdown, elevator pitch, and USP. In this video, Imriel spends some time reviewing what they’ve said and make some suggestions to help them focus their messaging and position.
