What we’re looking for

At its heart, Community Icon is about celebrating the stories, big and small, that remind us who we are when we come together.

We’re looking for podcast ideas and stories that celebrate the people, places, and symbols that represent the heart of a community, or an extraordinary person that you feel is underrepresented in today’s history. This theme is about shining a spotlight on those who bring people together, inspire pride, or leave a lasting mark. Whether that’s a local hero, a neighbourhood landmark, a cultural tradition, or something more unexpected.

We encourage you to:

  • Highlight the people, spaces, or traditions that have become cornerstones of community life.
  • Explore how these icons shape identity, belonging, and connection.
  • Share stories that capture the spirit of community and what makes it thrive
  • Provide us with a story that we are yet to know about.

All formats and styles are welcome. Interviews, documentaries, sound-rich storytelling, or creative expression, as long as the focus is on something that stands as a “community icon.” The audio projects should be between 10–15 minutes in length. It does not need to be completed by the end of said month.

Top tip: We’ll want to know how your idea fits the month’s theme so please make this clear in your pitch!
