Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is your audio editing turn around like?

We need to receive audio 72 hours before you need the final piece. If you want a 24 hour turn around edit, this will be an extra charge which will be discussed prior.

  • How do I get my video files?

As you have to bring in your own memory cards, you will then be able to take the footage straight home with you.

  • How long can I book the video service for?

You can book the studio for a minimum of 1 hour.

  • Can I change any of the settings on the camera and lights?

Do not change the settings on the equipment before consulting with us.

  • Will there be a video service at the Peckham studio?

Yes, this is next on our list to kit out. We will update you on our progress with this.

  • Can I bring in my own camera equipment and camera operator, but still use the mics?

Yes you can, when booking the studio pick the Content is Queen Makerversity option. The space is quite cosy, so I recommend making an enquiry about visiting the space before booking if you are bringing a lot of equipment. Email studio@contentisqueen.org if you have any questions.

  • Can I still just record audio only in the studio?

Of course, as this is what the studio was initially intended for. You can book by going to our booking site here and clicking the Content is Queen Makerversity option.

We do not currently offer a video editing service, but this is something we are looking to introduce in the future.

  • What quality is the video recording in?

The recording is set up to record in HD 60p50M. You are more than welcome to record in 4K if requested however, please do bring in a fast running SD card as slower SD card may cause the camera to overheat or shutoff due to running at a high capacity.

  • Do I need to bring anything with me when using the video service?

Yes, you must bring your own memory card. Bring 2 if you are using both cameras, one is for close ups and the other captures the whole studio. They need to be formatted to ExFat before coming in.

The memory card we recommend you bring is either a Sandisk Extreme or Sandisk Extreme Pro. They need to be either a UHS 2 or UHS 3 speed class.

The video equipment we have is:

If you change your mind in the first 7 days of registering, and you haven’t used any of our services (Studio or Editing). If you have any issues with cancelling, email studio@contentisqueen.org. To request a refund, email studio@contentisqueen.org.

  • Why do I need to be a member to use the studio?

We’re all about community here. Our goals for creating a diverse, equitable and representative landscape can only be achieved when we work together. So we’re very clear that people that join us are part of a growing community collectively working towards this vision. If that’s not your bag, that’s cool, but we’re probably not the best place for you.

If it’s more about money, you can cancel your membership at any point in time and rejoin as you need to. If you’re with us for 3 months consecutively, we give you free Digital for a year anyway.

  • What is the best membership option for me?

Great question. If you’re very new to podcasting and it’s not part of your brand or business, then join our mailing list for free here. Or enjoy our free resources, which we update weekly to get a feel for our style.

If you’re about to launch or are a new podcaster interested in developing your skills and get better at the more technical side of things, then Digital is the place to be. You’ll have access to experts, group sessions, and the ability to book calls with the team for additional support.

If you’re a podcaster with a little more experience but interested in improving the sound quality, or you want to invite higher-profile guests, then Record is a great option for you. You’ll get access to all of the Digital perks plus unlimited access to our studio.

If you’re a small brand, business, or charity that uses podcasting as a marketing channel but wants to grow and reduce your workload, Studio is the best option. With hands-on support, access to the team and a dedicated Editor, it’s a dreamy podcast workflow that can give you the peace of mind you need that a broadcast-ready episode(s) will be ready for you every month.

  • What happens if I go over my allotted time?

The best answer is, don’t. If you do/need to, then you’ll be billed at the hourly rate of £30. So it’s probably best to book the correct amount of time that you need in advance. As our studio is unlimited use for all members, we ask that you be respectful of other people’s times. That means showing up on time for your booking and leaving at the right time. If you repeatedly under book or overbook your slots by more than 30 mins, you’ll be given a strike. We reserve the right to cancel your membership if you have 3 strikes on your account.

  • Am I able to get more Editing hours than my membership allows?

Yes, please email studio@contentisqueen.org to buy additional hours charged at £50 per hour.

  • What happens if I miss my booked slot?

Unfortunately, you’ll lose that hour. We’re nice people so let us know and if there’s availability we can see if we can accommodate you at another time. Please note that we require at least 6 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling.

  • Can I reschedule my already booked time?

Yep, we need at least 6 hours notice. If you don’t reschedule or cancel within our notice period you’ll likely receive a strike against your account. We reserve the right to cancel your membership if you have 3 strikes on your account.

  • How can I cancel my membership?

Either login to your account or email us to let us know and we’ll cancel your membership.

  • How can I get help for more complex edits?

Email Amber or Joe on studio@contentisqueen.org and they’ll be happy to help.

  • Can I access both Somerset house and Peckham?

Yes, with our Studio membership you’ll be able to access to both studios and any we open in the future.

  • What happens if the time I want is already booked?

You’ll have to look for the next best slot. If you’re a Founding member, please email studio@contentisqueen.org to find out if we can accommodate you at Somerset House instead.

  • Can my co-host/producer get access to The Club area?

If you’re a Studio member, the answer is yes. Please send an email to studio@contentisqueen.org with their name and preferred email address to get them set up.

For Digital and Record members, the answer is no; it’s not possible at this time. We’re happy to provide you with a referral code where they can get 15% off Digital if they’d like to access a specific workshop, event or masterclass.

Please note: You cannot share or redistribute any content from our website or emails without express permission.

  • I have my own equipment, why would I need a studio?

Great question. The short answer is you probably don’t. A studio’s benefit is about connecting with your guests/co-hosts and being in a controlled environment. It’s a massive faff eliminating background noise in post-production, so only book the studio if you’re trying to impress someone, like to record in person or are trying to permanently get rid of sirens or crying babies from your podcast recordings.
